What is our vision?
We as parents face several challenges in our parenting roles. These challenges tend to be greater when we raise our children abroad. International parents have to discover their role as (new) parents in a foreign country, with less (to no) support from their social environment. Moreover, they often feel caught between the norms and expectations of their own culture and those of the country in which they live. Despite these challenges, little support is available to support these parents and help them increase their well-being.
Parenting across Borders strives for a world in which international parents experience adequate support from their environment and feel confident in their role as parents.
What is our mission?
Parenting across Borders is a social initiative that offers individual support to international parents, in their first 1,000 days of parenthood, in a dialogue group. Through dialogue, we want to offer international parents a safe space in which we create space for we a process of self-reflection and personal learning. Also, the dialogue group is a place where the new parents experience a sense of belonging to a community. Moreover, by meeting other parents and listening to their experiences, parents find recognition and also acknowledgement of the various challenges they face in raising a child in a foreign context.
We believe that supported parents are more confident parents who take better care of their inner selves, their children and their environment.
